Disney Tech Writer, Sr Level – 6 month Technical Writer Contractor Wanted (hourly position)

My name is Amber and I am the recruiter for Disney in Salt Lake City.  I have a 6 month sr. technical writing position that I am looking to fill by July 1.  I was hoping to get the word out to folks, and to post the position here if that was possible.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Responsible for collaborating with programmers, engineers and project management to fully document the technical processes, methods and standards of game engine tool set.

LOCATION

The job location is the Disney Office (a video game studio) in downtown Salt Lake City. The office has more than 250 employees.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Create, edit and maintain technical documentation for current and future applications (including technical reference manuals and online wiki documentation).
• Create, edit and maintain procedural documentation (including departmental policies, procedures, and user guides).
• Analyze requirements to determine the type of documentation required.
• Develop documentation project plans and timelines, in conjunction with the project management team.
• Develop internal standards, style guides and document management plans to support technical business units/functions.
• Maintain documentation standards and keep abreast of current information by associating with professional individuals or societies, or by reviewing professional publications, newsletters, e-mail, blogs and other websites.
• Research and include in documentation available technical resources, and drawings as well as identify necessary additional drawings, network diagrams to fully document the systems.
• Interview subject matter specialists and engineering groups to define and provide accurate technical information to accomplish goals in a timely manner.
• Write complex technical information with clear and concise language communication skills
• Determine information needs and select effective methods and techniques of developing a variety of technical documentation, including maintenance, control system operating and manufacturer manuals.
• Other duties as assigned by the Manager.

QUALIFICATIONS

• 5+ years experience as a technical writer
• ( programming / CS experience a plus)
• Proficient with Microsoft Office, Acrobat Professional, Confluence and HTML.
• Understanding of PHP, MySQL, C++,Javascript, Linux, ActionScript,.
• Experience with project management tools and software preferred.
• Bachelor’s degree in Technical Publications or equivalent work experience

• Able to structure templates that are easy to update for style and content.
• Able to apply efficiency principles to document design.
• Able to write clear, concise documentation in an informal language.
• Understands the technology project life cycle.
• Understands programming concepts, operating systems, and/or networking.
